Shipped, In Transit, Out for Delivery: Status Meaning
The most-asked question in every store's inbox is some version of: "tracking me in transit dikh raha hai 2 din se, kahan hai mera parcel?" And the honest answer is usually "on a truck between two hubs, exactly where it should be" — because tracking statuses were written for logistics people, not buyers. Here is the decoder ring: what each status means, what is normal at each stage, and the two statuses that genuinely need your action.
Order Confirmed / Label Created
The store has your order and a shipping label exists. Nothing has physically moved yet. This is the stage where impatient buyers send their first message — but the gap between label creation and pickup is often just hours, sometimes a day if the courier pickup slot passed. What matters: by the end of the next working day, you want to see a pickup scan. If a store sits on "label created" for 3+ days, that is a real service problem, not normal slack.
Shipped / Picked Up
The courier physically has your parcel. The first scan usually happens at the local hub, and from this moment the delivery clock honestly starts. Note the small lie in this status: "shipped" does not mean your parcel is on a truck to your city — it may spend a night at the local hub first. It is still the moment you can stop worrying about the store side; from here the courier owns the clock.
In Transit
The honest translation: moving between hubs, or waiting at one for the next linehaul. What confuses buyers is that "in transit" can cover four different realities — on a truck between cities, queued at a hub for tonight's sort, moving within the same city network, or sitting through a weekend with no linehauls running. Silence for 24-36 hours inside this status is completely normal. The rule of thumb we use: in-transit silence up to two full days is the courier being the courier; beyond three days, message the store and have them raise a trace.

Arrived at Destination Hub / Facility
Good news hiding in boring text: your parcel is in your city's network now. From here it usually moves to a local delivery centre within a day. During festive volume, this is where parcels queue the longest — arriving in the city and waiting two days for a delivery slot happens every Diwali season across every courier.
Out for Delivery
Your parcel is on a vehicle with a delivery route. Expect it by evening. The confusing variant is "out for delivery" appearing two days in a row — that happens when the day's route gets cut short by volume and your parcel goes back to the centre overnight. Nothing is wrong; the next day's attempt is genuinely coming. Do one useful thing at this stage: keep your phone reachable, because first attempts that fail on an unanswered call or OTP cost a full extra day.
Delivery Attempted / Undeliverable
This one needs your action. The delivery person came and could not complete — closed gate, wrong address, unreachable phone, OTP missed. The parcel is not lost; it is waiting at the local centre. One call to the courier branch or one message to the store with the right time or landmark usually rescues it the next day. Ignore this status for long enough and the parcel starts its slow journey back to the sender — that is the real way parcels get "lost".
Pending / On Hold / Exception
The vague ones, and honestly the fair-to-worry ones. Pending usually means a hub needs something: address clarification, weight disputes, weather stoppages, or damaged-while-transiting inspections. When you see it, message the store immediately with your order number — a good store has a courier contact channel buyers do not, and resolves most holds within a day. Exception + no movement for 48 hours deserves an escalation, not a wait.
Delivered (and the awkward cousin, "Delivered but not received")
Delivered means scanned at handover — to you, a gatekeeper, or occasionally a nearby accepted location. If the status says delivered and you have nothing: check with family, the gate, the neighbours, and any "handed to guard" photo the courier app shows. Still nothing? Raise it with the store the same day; couriers keep proof-of-delivery (signature, photo, GPS) and false-delivered claims get investigated seriously. The same-day report matters — the proof trail goes cold fast.

The two-minute status rule
Read your tracking like this: label created — wait for pickup scan; shipped — store side done; in transit — patience up to 72 hours; out for delivery — stay reachable; attempted — act today; pending or exception — message the store today; delivered — open and verify today. Every status either needs patience or needs action, and knowing which one you are in is the whole skill.
Status FAQs
How long can a parcel stay "in transit" legitimately?
Up to about 72 hours for intercity legs, longer during festive surges and for remote pincodes. Beyond that without any scan, ask the store to raise a trace with the courier — they have channels buyers do not.
Why did my status go backwards or repeat?
Backwards jumps are usually scan corrections (a parcel re-entered a hub's system), and repeated out-for-delivery means failed daily routes. Both look alarming and are usually harmless; the concern threshold is any status frozen for 3+ days.
Does "out for delivery" mean a specific time?
No — routes are loaded in an order that depends on the day's volume and geography. Morning attempts are common on dense urban routes, evening on longer ones. Treat the whole working day as the window.
Who should I contact first: store or courier?
The store, almost always. You are their customer and they carry a business relationship with the courier that gets faster answers than a consumer helpline. Go to the courier directly only after the store stalls.
What if tracking shows delivered but I got nothing?
Check gatekeepers, neighbours and any delivery photo first. Then report to the store the same day so the courier's proof-of-delivery (photo, signature, GPS) can be pulled while it is fresh. Same-day reports resolve very differently from week-late ones.
